Join acclaimed artist Tony Albert and create a vintage playing card sculpture at the next Caloundra Regional Gallery Friday3Live event on June 16 from 6-8pm.
Works from Albert’s photographic series 50perCENT 2006 are featured in the gallery’s current exhibition, Re-View: Selected works from the Sunshine Coast Art Collection.
Bring a friend and get creative at this special workshop that will explore Tony’s practice through a hands-on activity inspired by the artist’s series of vintage playing card sculptures.
Throughout the workshop Albert will discuss the evolution of his practice with gallery curator Hamish Sawyer. This is a unique opportunity to spend an evening with one of Australia’s most significant contemporary artists.
Places are limited so please book via the gallery website. The cost to attend is $10 and includes workshop materials. Complimentary light snacks will be available and a cash bar for drink purchases.
Tony Albert was born in Townsville in 1981, and is a descendant of the Girramay and Kuku Yalanji people of Far North Queensland. Albert’s work has featured in exhibitions including the ‘10th Biennial of Havana’, Cuba, 2009; ‘21st Century: Art in the First Decade’, Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA), Brisbane, 2010; and ‘String Theory’, Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Sydney, 2013. In 2007, Albert’s 50perCENT feat. SISSY, won the Sunshine Coast Art Prize. Albert subsequently donated the eight other photographs in the series to the Sunshine Coast Art Collection, through the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program.
Friday3Live is held at the gallery on the third Friday of every month and includes a changing program of interactive activities, music, talks and performances.
