Meet the Artist: Petalia Humphreys

Petalia Humphreys creates three-dimensional reductive abstract paintings that reveal a concern for location, colour, light and space. Humphreys’ hard-edge, geometric forms encourage an interactive approach, inviting the audience to engage in playful ways, considering ways of seeing, perceiving and viewing. Working with building materials, Humphreys’ practice spans from small-scale hand-crafted paintings through to large site-specific public art installations.

Humphreys’ is also a producer and curator for Studio 26, a project that curates critical conversation and exhibitions for local artists whose works fall within a reductive practice. In addition to pursing an arts practice, Humphreys is a sessional teacher in Design at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

She is currently showing a collection of her work as a Featured Artist in the Caloundra Regional Gallery Store.
