Conditions of Entry

In its fifth year, the Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra Inc., in conjunction with the Caloundra Regional Gallery, invites artists to submit works in competition for the Local Artists – Local Content 2018 Art Prize.

Up to forty finalists will be included in an exhibition at the Caloundra Regional Gallery with prizes totaling $13,500.

Entries in the Local Artists–Local Content 2018 Art Prize are eligible to be considered for:

  • Best of Show – value $5,000 (sponsored by Mary Henzell Investments Pty Ltd)
  • Best Oil or Acrylic – value $2,000 (sponsored by Mark McArdle, MP, and Judy McArdle)
  • Best Watercolour – value $2,000 (sponsored by Mark McArdle, MP, and Judy McArdle)
  • Best Mixed/Other Medium – value $2,000 (sponsored by Stuart and Kylie Border, Local Agent)
  • Best Three-Dimensional – value $2,000 (sponsored by Sunshine Coast Council)
  • People’s Choice Award – value $500 (sponsored by Geoff Lyons Solicitors Pty Ltd).

To be considered for selection, entrants must comply with all entry instructions and conditions.

Key dates

  • Entries open on Wednesday 28 February 2018.
  • Entries close on Monday 16 July 2018.
  • Finalists announced: Friday 10 August 2018.
  • Works to be delivered on Thursday 11 October or Friday 12 October 2018 to Caloundra Regional Gallery, between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm Installation of works will take place on Monday 15 October and Tuesday 16 October 2018.
  • Winners announced: Wednesday 17 October 2018 at the official exhibition opening.
  • Exhibition dates: Wednesday 17 October to Sunday 9 December 2018
  • People’s Choice Award announced on Wednesday 12 December 2018.
  • Collection of unsold works may be collected or transported on Thursday 13 December and Friday 14 December 2018, between the hours of 10.00 am and 4.00 pm from Caloundra Regional Gallery.

Instructions and conditions 

Eligibility

The artist must be a full-time resident of the Sunshine Coast and Noosa local government areas (with a post code commencing with 45). Broadly, the region extends from Glasshouse Mountains in the south, to Pomona in the north and to Kenilworth in the west.

Entry

Entry fee is $20.00 (entry fees are non-refundable).
Only one entry per artist may be submitted.

Payment may be made:

  • via Electronic Funds Transfer to Bendigo Bank, BSB: 633000, Account no: 126624725.(Note your surname and “LALC”’ in the transfer details).
  • by money order or cheque, made payable to “Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra Inc.”
  • by hand delivery to the Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra drop box.

Complete and submit Local Artists – Local Content 2017 Art Prize entry form:

  • email to: friendsofthegallerycaloundra@gmail.com
  • post to PO Box 453, Caloundra 4551
  • by hand by placing the entry form into the drop box located at Caloundra Regional Gallery, accompanied by completed entry form in a clearly marked envelope with LALC 2017 Art Prize on the cover.

A high resolution image of the artwork (2 MB-5 MB) in one of the following types: jpg, jpeg, doc, docx, pdf, bmp or png should be submitted with the entry form, or be emailed to friendsofthegallerycaloundra@gmail.com 5.00 pm on Monday 16 July 2018 at the very latest.

N.B. The quality of the image is instrumental in the selection of the finalists.

To help you achieve the best results:

The artwork

  • Must not exceed the size limit of 1.5m × 1.5m. The three-dimensional works must not exceed 50cm x 50cm x 50cm and 20kg in weight.
  • Must not have won a prize in a previous competition and must have been produced within the last three years.
  • May be a multi-panel work as long as the overall dimensions do not exceed the size limit, as above.
  • May be in oil/acrylic, watercolour or mixed medium.
  • Must be clearly marked on the back with the artist’s name and address and the title of the work. All supplied artwork must mounted and framed with “D hooks” attached and be ready for hanging.
  • A stretched canvas is considered a suitable frame.
  • Must be accompanied by a photograph of the assembled work and clear instructions for its installation if it is a multi-panelled work.
  • The artist must be the sole author and owner of the copyright of all artwork entered. Artists using exact reference from another professional artist or photographer will need permission from the copyright owner. Source material and proof of permission to use must be made available on request by the judges. The Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra accepts no liability in the publication of unlawfully reproduced art.
  • Must be sufficiently dried/cured before delivery.
  • Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra Inc. and the Caloundra Regional Gallery reserve the right to determine the most appropriate method for displaying two-dimensional and three-dimensional works and to refuse to display any works deemed inappropriate or unsafe.

Delivery of finalists artworks

The work must be accompanied by a printout of the completed entry form.

Entries will only be accepted during the specified period (see Key dates above) via the delivery dock at the rear of the Caloundra Regional Gallery.

Delivery must be made in person, by a nominated representative (such as a friend, relative or artist’s agent) or by a courier/freight company. Deliveries will not be accepted via Australia Post.

Any costs incurred in the delivery or transport to or from the exhibition are the responsibility of the artist and no liability shall be accepted by either the Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra or Caloundra Regional Gallery.

The artist shall be responsible for their own insurance of their artwork.

Exhibiting the work

The artist grants the Caloundra Regional Gallery permission to display the work in an exhibition of selected finalists for Local Artists – Local Content 2018 Art Prize at the Caloundra Regional Gallery, 22 Omrah Avenue, Caloundra (see Key dates above).

It is the artist’s responsibility to ensure that the original work is available for these purposes.

Licensing the work

The artist warrants that the work is original and does not infringe the copyright, moral rights or other rights of any third party.

The artist grants a non-exclusive licence to Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra to reproduce the work in material form, to photograph, publish and/or communicate it to the public for prize-related purposes, and anything incidental to such purposes, by the Caloundra Regional Gallery and sponsors, including marketing, publicity, educational and publication uses for the gallery, the prize and its exhibition in all media, including but not limited to electronic/digital, broadcasting and print media, for a period of two years from the opening date of the exhibition.

All works must be available for sale with a 20% commission of the sale price to be payable to Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra Inc.

Selection of works

The finalists for the Local Artists – Local Content 2018 Art Prize are selected by a panel chosen by Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra.

The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence shall be entered into.

Finalists and prize winners will be announced to the media and published on the Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra website and social media on the same day (see Key dates above). Prize winners will be advised beforehand.

Artists whose work is chosen for display may be asked to provide additional information (such as biographical details and a statement about the work) to assist with preparation of prize-related material.

Winning artists agree to make themselves available for the purposes of promotion and publicity at times, dates and places reasonably requested by the Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra.

Collecting the work

Artists are responsible for organising the collection of their work during the time period specified by the Caloundra Regional Gallery and must indicate on the entry form how the work will be collected. These are the only options available for the return of works. Please refer to Key dates above.

There will be no returns by Australia Post.

The Caloundra Regional Gallery/Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra will not pay for any costs incurred in the collection of any entry.
