Artist Statement

Portraiture is the artists great love. Capturing something of a person’s essence through the act of photography is a bit of a spiritual practice for Ketakii. She has been honing this intuitive skill since first taking up photography as a teenager. Adding in elements of uncertainty and the sublime, she often utilises her film camera to capture double exposures; as these are shot on film, there is no way of knowing what they are going to look like until the film is developed. When it works it is incredible. This is where the magic is.

This image shows the artist’s dear friend and collaborator morphing into a bougainvillea blossom or is it the other way around? The merging of 2 photographic images makes it difficult to tell and mesmerizing to view.
