New pedestrian bridge for North Maroochy River
Funding has been secured for a 290m pathway and boardwalk, and a pedestrian bridge over the North Maroochy River at Eumundi.
A new pathway, boardwalk and pedestrian bridge over the North Maroochy River at Eumundi is set to transform the way pedestrians, bike riders and other active transport users navigate the area.
It will also significantly enhance safety and convenience.
Council partnered with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to develop the design.
We will continue to collaborate with TMR through the construction phase.
Funding has been secured for a 290m pathway and boardwalk, and a pedestrian bridge which will link into the existing active transport network.
The bridge will run adjacent to the existing road bridge on the Eumundi-Noosa Road.
Sunshine Coast Council Division 10 Councillor David Law welcomed the funding from the Australian and Queensland Governments under a 50-50 split as part of the Road Safety Program.
“I am thrilled we now have the funding to deliver the Eumundi-Noosa Road active transport bridge project, something our local Eumundi residents have been passionately seeking,” Cr Law said.
“Protecting our road users, which includes all those using our active transport links, is a priority for Council.
“This project will greatly improve the protection for our community members who use this transport link and provide a safer crossing over the river,” Cr Law said.
“Council, in partnership with TMR, developed the design and it’s great that both levels of government will continue to work together through the construction phase.
How long will the project take
“We expect works will take up to six months to complete, depending on weather and site conditions.
“We have not yet confirmed a start date and we will keep our community informed as the project progresses.
“This is a great outcome and such a good example of how we’re connecting and engaging with our communities to build a better future for everyone.”
Transport and Main Roads North Coast Region’s Deputy Regional Director Justin Valks said road safety was the department's top priority.
“This project will achieve significant safety and accessibility benefits for the Eumundi community,” Mr Valks said.
“Once constructed, the local community, including school-aged children, will be able to use the new pedestrian bridge to walk safely across North Maroochy River on Eumundi-Noosa Road into the township of Eumundi.
“The project will deliver a new pedestrian walkway and bridge over the North Maroochy River, running from Seib Road, to integrate with the existing footpath near the Eumundi rail crossing.”
