Celebrating NAIDOC 2023 Caloundra Regional Gallery presented two exhibitions, Saltwater Dreaming and Ghost Net Sculptures from Pormpuraaw.

Saltwater Dreaming - tells Aunty Hope O’Chin’s (Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi, Wakka Wakka, Koa, Gugu-Yalanji) story of the first surfer – the Dolphin and the board surfers of the waves: and how both co-inhabit on the shores of her Country.

Ghost Net Sculptures from Pormpuraaw - by Christine Holroyd, Christine Yantumba, Michael Norman, Mylene Holroyd, Steven Kepper and Syd Bruce Shortjoe. These artworks utilise recycled materials, in particular nets that have been dumped by commercial fishing boats, causing significant environmental harm. Four of these works were exhibited in Australia/ Defending the Oceans: Ghost Net Sculptures at The Paris Aquarium and the United Nations in Geneva in 2017.
