Landscapes and Abstracts 3 marks Miles Rowan’s fifth solo exhibition, presenting a vibrant collection of experimental landscape works inspired by the Maleny region and its surrounds. Alongside these evocative landscapes, Rowan introduces a selection of recent abstract pieces, offering a dynamic interplay between representation and imagination.
The exhibition invites viewers into a richly textured visual journey, one that shifts between the familiar and the unexpected and celebrates both the quiet beauty of place and the expressive possibilities of colour and form.
Through his work, Rowan seeks to convey a sense of subtlety and reality, infused with a childlike wonder. His landscapes blur the boundaries between observation and imagination, while his abstract works explore bold geometric forms and vivid colour palettes that express emotional states across time; past, present, and future.
About the artist
Miles Rowan grew up in the artistically rich community of Eltham, on the outskirts of Melbourne. He went on to study art-related subjects at Griffith University and RMIT University, grounding his practice in both formal training and lifelong creative exploration.
Rowan’s work is deeply connected to the Australian landscape, though he intentionally departs from traditional representations. Instead, he navigates a space between naivety and surrealism to create an impressionistic reality, one that captures mood, memory, and emotional resonance rather than strict realism.
His abstract works further expand this exploration, using striking colour and geometric form to reflect shifting internal landscapes. Across both styles, Rowan’s work consistently seeks to evoke a sense of wonder that is at once subtle, engaging, and enduring.
