The Language of Laws
The colourful life of Judith Laws | 5 Dec 2025 to 1 Feb 2026
A deep insight into the extraordinary making of one of the Sunshine Coast’s favourite contemporary Australian artists, Judith Laws. With works drawn from private and public collections, this exhibition examines the depth and breadth of Judith’s art. Follow her visual exploration from early works of people, places and discoveries while travelling with life partner Rex Backhaus-Smith, and her love of impressionism, abstraction, and colour.
Laws has always painted from ideas and her imagination and, as her making evolved, her works became less subject or medium-bound. She experimented with different mediums, never settling on one, and flows through acrylic, watercolour, mixed media and collage, oil sticks, pastels, and inks. As Laws notes, she is passionate about painting and all aspects of art. Her work invites the viewer to delve into and become one with the art.
