The Language of Laws

A deep insight into the extraordinary making of one of the Sunshine Coast’s favourite contemporary artists, Judith Laws. With works drawn from private and public collections, this exhibition examines the depth and breadth of Judith’s art and follows her visual exploration from early works of people, places and discoveries while travelling with life partner Rex Backhaus-Smith and her love of impressionist abstraction and colour.

Laws has always painted from her imagination and as her making evolved, her works became less subject or medium-bound. She has experimented with different mediums, never settling on one – flowing through acrylic, watercolour, mixed media and collage, oil sticks, pastels and inks. Laws is passionate about painting and all aspects of artmaking. Her work invites the viewer to delve into and become one with the artwork.

Judith Laws plans to be in attendance every Sunday during the exhibition from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon*. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet Judith in person, chat with her about her creative process, and gain deeper insights into her work. We invite you to come along and make the most of this special chance to connect with the artist behind the exhibition.
