Hear ‘telling of truth from lived experiences’

Join Sunshine Coast Libraries for a morning with Dr Hope O’Chin and the launch of her new book, An Epistemology of Belongingness: Dreaming A First Nation’s Ontology of Hope. Hear from the author, enjoy a free morning tea and have an opportunity to purchase the book at Caloundra Library on Tuesday, February 20.

The book focuses on Australia’s First Nations truth, voice, recognition, diversity, and respect.
O’Chin offers ideas for engaging with Indigenous peoples and forming communities of belongingness. Learn about ways in which art and education can act as ‘healing’ and a way forward towards a more inclusive civil society.

Author Dr Hope O’Chin said: “I’ve always been an artist and an educator and decided to write as I was always interested in preserving our history.

“This book is for people who want to learn history and what it was like to live in an Aboriginal community. It speaks to the fact that Australia’s First Nations peoples were the first people that inhabited Australia,” Dr O’Chin said.

“It's a kaleidoscope of images, stories, and events - It's the telling of truth from somebody's lived experiences throughout a number of different eras of Australian history.

“The book predominantly focused on my story and the community from where I come from, which is the Aboriginal community of Cherbourg.”

Aunty Hope is a Kabi-Kabi, Wakka-Wakka, Koa, Gugu-Yalanji elder, educator, and artist. She obtained her PhD from University of the Sunshine Coast.
