Council is committed to enabling access to the Art Collection through a vibrant presentation of selected artworks on the walls of public and civic buildings, external loans and touring exhibitions, curated exhibitions, outreach opportunities and an online Art Collections database.
The Art Collection is currently on display in key locations across the region, including the public foyers of council's administration buildings, libraries, venues and community halls.
The Art Collection is also showcased at times in part through themed exhibitions at the Caloundra Regional Gallery. See information below for details of Art Collection exhibitions and displays.
At times, artworks are also loaned externally for specific exhibitions and displays to promote the Art Collection and the Sunshine Coast beyond the region. Council provides and seeks opportunities for effective Collection partnerships with other galleries, museums or groups. For more information, please contact the Collections Curator.
In FULL Colour: the Sunshine Coast through the eyes of an artist
4 March – 1 June 2019
Maroochydore Library Artspace
Caloundra Regional Gallery and Sunshine Coast Libraries present the exhibition, in FULL colour at the Maroochydore Library Artspace.
in FULL colour is an exhibition that delves into the holdings of the Sunshine Coast Art Collection to explore artists’ use of high-key colour palettes to depict their subjects, including the landscape, people and local produce.
With a thematic selection of paintings, photography and mixed media works drawn from the Sunshine Coast Art Collection, in FULL colour offers a unique opportunity to view artworks that have rarely been displayed in public, by sixteen contemporary Australian artists; some local, some from outside of the region, including previous Sunshine Coast Art Prize winners. A focus is the Sunshine Coast’s environmental diversity and beauty, which is renowned for attracting and inspiring artists to capture the local landscape, flora and fauna.
The works on display will captivate audiences through their vivid colour schemes with renderings of distinct coastal architecture and landmarks such as the Moreton Sugar Mill; the rural farmlands and the Glasshouse Mountains; through to contemporary responses around themes of European colonisation and the displacement of First Nations people.
The Sunshine Coast Art Collection is a collection of paintings, photography, sculpture, ceramics and textiles that has grown in strength over the past decade, particularly through the Sunshine Coast Art Prize for contemporary Australian Art, as well as the generosity of artist donations and select acquisitions. The Collection aims to reflect and celebrate the character and culture or our region and encourage enjoyment and awareness of the visual arts.
