Artist Statement
I base my painting on the philosophies of the post-human and new materialism with a Deleuzian affective framework. My Kedron Brook series investigates my experiences walking along the Kedron Brook and witnessing the damage from the 2022 floods and the subsequent growth and regeneration. In this series, I explore entanglements with the brook and the butterflies I see in the area. I become the flow and vitality of the brook. I become the lightness and joy of the butterfly. I transfer these embodied experiences into my art materials. These experiences are joyful, transforming and healing for me.
I gratefully give acknowledgement of Country and pay respects to the elders past and present and extend this respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islanders as the traditional custodians and owners of the land.
