First Nations Screen Printing Pop-Up | NAIDOC 2026
2 July to 16 August 2026
About
This First Nations merchandise pop-up is here to celebrate 50 Years of Deadly—honouring the strength, resilience and creativity of First Nations peoples.
Showcasing a curated collection of hand-printed merchandise, this pop‑up highlights screen printing as both a contemporary artform and a continuation of cultural storytelling. Each piece reflects the diverse voices of First Nations creatives, grounded in connection to Country, community and cultural knowledge.
Supported by Sunshine Coast Council’s Arts & Heritage Levy, this initiative builds on last year’s program where 10 First Nations artists participated in a 3-day screen printing workshop led by Jinibara artist Jennifer Kent—connecting, sharing and developing new skills together. The merchandise presented for this NAIDOC pop‑up in the gallery store shares selected outcomes from that collective process.
In the spirit of this year’s theme, 50 Years of Deadly, the pop‑up acknowledges the generations of artists, activists and communities who have carried culture forward—transforming resistance into expression and ensuring that First Nations stories continue to be told on their own terms.
Visitors are invited to explore limited-edition prints, wearable artworks and unique items that speak to identity, pride and place—offering a meaningful opportunity to directly support First Nations artists.
The First Nations Screen Printing pop‑up will run from 2 July to 16 August, presented alongside Caloundra Gallery’s upcoming exhibition, Lore and Land: Works by First Nations Artists in the Sunshine Coast Art Collection. You can visit the pop-up during gallery open hours: Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, weekends, 10am to 2pm.
