Artist Statement
Andy Harwood’s painting, Extended Light (Green Light / Turquoise) is an exploration of colour and its adaptability. Considering the interactions between light and colour through mathematically coordinated compositions. Exposing the colour in its solid form alongside semi-transparent, painterly forms gives the viewer the opportunity to view how colour is influenced and changed by its surroundings. This process is akin to the human experience. The body readily responds to varying environmental and physiological changes for us to survive. Extended Light resonates with an inner luminosity, the static canvas vibrating with its own kinetic energy as the gaze is simultaneously pulled between movement and stillness. Harwood’s painting intends to shift the emphasis of his work away from perception willed by the artist to reception engineered by the viewer.
