Artist Statement
I try to paint plants as subjects, rather than mere objects. In my work they represent the other-than-human.
As the supposed inevitable pinnacle of evolution, we human beings like to see ourselves as somehow seperate from nature. One need only look around to see how that is working out for us. The truth is, we live in a world full of persons and, as an animist, I’m keen to point out that only some of them are human. I like to think my work exists at a point where often unexamined presuppositions about reality rub up against the strangeness and ineffability of lived experience and the cosmos.
