Julie Bradley | Stones for Barbara Hepworth | 2016 | mixed media gouache and collage | 50 x 30 cm
Themes of connectedness in the natural world have been at the core of my practice. Connectedness through the myths we create about the world and our place in it.
“Stones for Barbara Hepworth” was inspired by a visit to Hepworth’s studio in St Ives UK and her passionate exploration of the land. This image is part of series of works investigating the idea of the power of stones.
The overlapping forms in this composition imply the passing of time –the building up and breaking down of stones. Forms come forward and recede in the shallow space, appear suspended and contrast the ephemeral with the seemingly permanent.
