Artist Statement

In the work I’m going bananas the artist takes a humorous approach to representing a fragment of the Giorgio De Chirico work L'Incertitude du poète [The Uncertainty of the Poet, 1913]. Since his early days in art school Condon has been fascinated by the work of Georgio De Chirico, and the stories that surround the artist. During Condon’s first journey to London in 2012 he encountered the De Chirico work at the TATE modern art museum, and was enthralled by the colour, brushwork and the scale of the work. One thing that resounded with the young artist was the vibrancy of the Bananas, which we see presented here surrounded by the similarly lurid colour Cadmium Yellow.
