David Rankin was born in Plymouth, England. His family migrated to Australia in 1949 when Rankin was two. The first exhibition of Rankin’s paintings was in Sydney, Australia, in 1968. He works predominantly in oil painting and acrylic on canvas, but also works with paper, prints, sculptures and ceramics. He has subsequently had over 100 solo exhibitions. His work has been exhibited in many cities including New York, Berlin, Beijing, Paris, Zurich, Vienna,  San Miguel de Allende (Mexico), and throughout Australia.
