Featured Artist: Susan Schmidt

Schmidt’s works are contemporary and figurative with subtle abstract elements and surprises underpinned by her concern for the environment, sustainable living and the value of a more simple life.

Working with acrylic and oil paint - patterned, layered and rubbed back allows the underlying to emerge and achieve an organic quality in Susan’s pieces.

Echoing transience, evoking nostalgia and inviting appreciation for the often taken for granted are central themes for Susan in her practice.

She has been exhibiting in solo and selected shows since 1998 and since 2012 internationally. Including the New York Chelsea International Art Competition, in Hong Kong, Istanbul, California and Singapore and was a finalist in the Rise Art Prize in London.

In 2016 by invitation Susan was artist-in residence at One & Only Reethi Rah, Maldives.

In 2021, she won ‘Best of Show’ in the Local Artists - Local Content Art Prize at Caloundra Regional Gallery.

Creating from her Noosa Heads studio, Susan’s works are exhibited, selected and collected nationally and internationally.
