Pop-up artisan: Westacott Glass
Featuring work from Westacott Glass | 23 August to 13 October
Westacott Studio (est. 2008) is a privately owned hot glass facility situated in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast and is the home base of Jonathon Westacott’s glass creations. Jonathon Westacott’s artwork captures the essence of Australia’s wilderness, drawing on the Nouveau Period and landscapists of the 19th century.
“My work is an exploration of detail. Visually I’m concerned with form and colour but also a curiosity to understand what is not obvious in a place. Bushwalking into remote and wild places is the key to my research and the artwork is a way of preserving or remembering experiences. On these journeys I draw and photograph anything inspiring, birds, animals, trees, insects, bringing these records back to the studio to create a visual story as ink drawings, watercolour paintings and carvings on glass.”
Westacott studied Visual Arts at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga and completed a Hot Glass traineeship at the Jam Factory Art and Craft Centre, Adelaide. Westacott is represented by galleries around Australia.
