This painting explores the concept of potential constrained and how perception changes when something powerful is removed from its natural environment and placed within unnatural boundaries. This shift in context reframes the shark not as a predator, but as something limited and fragile.
The box (confines of the canvas edges) represents the boundaries placed around identity and creativity. Within this confined space, there is enough room to move, but none to grow. At times, as an artist, we find ourselves creating for the sake of others. Perhaps we found safety in consistency. However, over time this becomes restrictive. The work becomes a metaphor for the self: still whole, still capable, but stifled by imposed limitations.
